Double Chocolate Brownies

  • 1 large avocado
  • ½ cup applesauce
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ⅓ cup chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 350º and grease an 8×8 baking dish.
  2. In a food processor or blender, combine avocado, applesauce, maple syrup and vanilla.
  3. Transfer to a large bowl and add eggs, flour, cocoa powder, sea salt and baking soda. Mix with a hand mixer until combined.
  4. Pour into greased baking dish and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
  5. Bake for about 25 minutes or until set through.
  6. Allow to cool completely before cutting.
  7. Cut into 16 squares.

Live It is a cooking demonstration presented by the Nutrition Food Services and Wellness Departments at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers (CHWC). Episodes are hosted by registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator Andrea Miller, and each features a different special guest sous chef. The goal of Live It is to showcase nutrient-dense foods and teach viewers doable ways to use them in order to promote wellness in our community.
