The weeks leading up to, and the night before a surgery can be restless. Worries and questions run through your head, fear about what will actually happen during surgery and anxiety concerning recovery can be overwhelming.
Having total joint replacement surgery at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers is different.
Cindy Seaman, RN, BSN, ONC, CMSRN is in your corner, assisting to eliminate some of the stress that comes with major surgery. As an orthopedic nurse navigator, Seaman strives to be the familiar face that patients see from the time they decide to have surgery to the time they leave for home or rehabilitation. Education and communication are two main factors of Seaman’s role. Surgery is a major event in one’s life, and being there to answer every last question may make all the difference in ensuring an excellent experience.
“My goals are to be available to patients and their families, to maintain open lines of communication and to provide patients with current and up-to-date education related to their specific orthopedic surgery,” Seaman says.
CHWC also offers free orthopedic educational classes to patients scheduled for a total hip, knee or shoulder replacement. Our classes give patients and their families and friends an opportunity to meet the staff providing their care, and learn about what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Individuals who are still undecided about whether or not to have surgery are also encouraged to attend classes and meet with our staff.
