CHWC operates two full-time Emergency Departments, one at Montpelier Hospital and the other at Bryan Hospital. These units provide immediate and emergent care and services for over 17,500 patient visits each year. We realize that the need to visit the ER can be a stressful time, so our goal is to meet the needs of each patient and provide an excellent care experience.
Our Staff
Our Emergency Departments are staffed with nursing cardiopulmonary and radiology professionals who have been trained to work in this unique environment. Nursing staff are certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale. All other personnel work cooperatively to support Emergency Department staff so the full services of the hospital can be directed to meet each patient’s unique needs.
Physician staffing is provided under contract. Emergency Department physicians are specially trained to care for patients who have an immediate need for diagnosis and intervention. In many cases, the Emergency Department physician will confer with the patient’s primary physician or the hospitalist on duty to make the best possible decisions for treatment and possible admission to the hospital.
Trauma
Our Emergency Department staff and physicians are well educated in injury recognition and are knowledgeable in the stabilization of critically ill and injured patients. We work closely with Williams County EMS and the various trauma transport services (helicopter and ground) to make sure that every injured patient is treated at the optimum level of hospital care.
Stroke Care
Our Emergency Department partners with the Stroke Care Now Network to provide neurological consultation and treatment recommendations for patients who may be experiencing symptoms of a stroke.
