Cultivating Compassion for Ourselves and Our Children
with Lorraine M. Hobbs, M.A.
Saturday, September 9  from  1–3 p.m.

Parenting by all standards is challenging. In this course, participants will learn the art of being fully present with their children and practicing kindness, consideration and compassion. The demands of life can affect our ability to practice patience and listening with our children, impacting the quality of those relationships by contributing to frustration and confusion for both children and parents. By identifying reactive patterns and exploring options for attending to the unplanned stressors in life, we can improve our ability to respond skillfully to our own needs and the needs of our children. By practicing the new methods taught in this course, parents and caretakers can enjoy healthier, more productive relationships between family members.

Lorraine Hobbs M.A. is the Director of Youth and Family Programs at U.C. San Diego Center for Mindfulness.  As a family therapist and former clinical director of adolescent treatment programs, Lorraine is committed to helping teens and families achieve greater emotional health and wellbeing through Mindfulness-Based Interventions. During her tenure at the Center for Mindfulness, she has developed and implemented curricula in mindfulness training for multiple age groups. She is co-author of Making Friends with Yourself: A Mindful Self-Compassion Program for Teens & Young Adults, endorsed by Kristen Neff, Ph.D. & Chris Germer, Ph.D. Lorraine provides teacher training in this curriculum worldwide.

Lorraine is a certified MBSR (Mindfulness Based-Stress Reduction), MSC (Mindful Self-Compassion) teacher.  She offers 5-day intensives and two-day core skills training in MBSR and MSC.  She is also certified to teach CCARE (Compassion Cultivation, Altruism, Research & Education), a year-long training program created by clinical psychologists and contemplative scholars at Stanford University.  Lorraine is director of the Mindfulness Adolescent Teacher Certification Program at UCSD CFM.
