The Employee Philanthropy Program (EPP) at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). The SART program’s mission is to come together to provide a consistent, competent and caring response to sexual assault victims in Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding and Williams Counties.

The goals of the SART program include: protecting victims from further harm; providing a calm, peaceful and secluded atmosphere; providing patient-centered care in a respectful, non-judgmental and encouraging manner; evaluating pregnancy risk and offering protection; providing timely, thorough and professional forensic evidence collection, documentation and preservation; obtaining evidence to enhance the ability of law enforcement agencies to successfully prosecute sexual assault cases; appropriately referring victims for immediate and follow-up medical care and counseling.

A sexual assault hotline is available 24/7 at 1-800-782-8555.

The funds granted by the EPP to SART are designated for medical equipment and continuing education training for forensic nursing.
