Our Community Education staff create and coordinate programs for the
public that center on opportunities to improve your health
status. These programs are advertised in each hospital building
and through local newspapers and radio stations.
Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR)
We offer CPR re-certification to anyone who wants to maintain their
skills. In addition, we offer CPR Instructor Course for those
trained at the Healthcare Provider Level.
LifeSteps
A weight management program developed by the National Dairy Council
and designed for people who are 10 to 75 pounds overweight. This
is a 16 week program that concentrates on nutrient and caloric content
of food choices, and behavioral modification concepts.
Registered Dietitians lead each activity session. The course
includes two individual counseling sessions.
Health
Screening Programs
Business and Industrial health screening programs can be arranged for
on-site wellness programs. The screenings can include blood
pressure, cholesterol, skin cancer, colorectal, blood chemistry
profile. Each program can be tailored to meet the needs of each
company.
HEALTH
AWARENESS DAY
This is a bi-annual event, sponsored by CHWC, and is open to all area
residents. Health Awareness is a special opportunity to have a
battery of health screening tests for a nominal charge. Testing
includes blood pressure checks, eye exams, dental check-ups, fitness,
hearing, height and weight, pulmonary screening, oral cancer screening
and blood chemistry profiles.
CHWC
Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Program
CHWC recognizes the public's desire for early cancer detection and
preventative education. The CPED program provides community,
individual and industrial site screening and education. The
services are provided by CHWC oncology nursing staff.
Screenings
include the following:
- A
comprehensive health history and cancer risk analysis.
- A
physical examination of the skin, head and neck, abdomen, breasts
and lymph nodes.
- Education
about cancer risk reduction and self-exam techniques.
- Referral
to physicians of choice for prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Opportunities
Any person interested in volunteering to work in our gift shops, information
desk, or provide other services for our patients should contact the Community

Community
Speakers Bureau
The hospital has several staff members available to provide programs
for community interest groups, clubs and organizations. Persons
interested in arranging for a speaker should contact our Community
Education Department. We are confident we can identify a speaker
to meet your needs.
