CANCER CARE STAYS CLOSE
TO HOME With a community cancer
hospital located in Bryan, patients receive the best cancer care available
without going far from home. The Bryan Hospital has been designated a “Community
Cancer Hospital” by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of
Surgeons. Only one in four hospitals that treat cancer patients receives this
special recognition.
How did the Bryan Hospital
earn this distinction? By offering the latest in diagnostic and treatment
options plus top-quality, comprehensive patient care. Team
Approach
Cancer
care is a team effort at the Bryan Hospital. We offer board-certified surgeons,
medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and
oncology-certified nurses plus social workers, dieticians, and therapists. We also participate in a national cancer
registry. Members of the cancer care team meet frequently to discuss patient care and treatment options, pooling their knowledge from their various fields of expertise so patients receive the best treatment available. Medical
Oncologist
Board-certified in oncology and hematology, our medical oncologist Dr. Mahoud Afifi joined the staff of CHWC in 2004. Dr. Afifi studied medicine in Egypt, New Jersey, and New York. He has lived in the United States for over 20 years, participating in cancer research projects in ovarian, pancreatic, breast, bone, and lung cancers. He also researched the prevention of nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy. Patients who have been treated by
Dr. Afifi have high praise for his knowledge, skill, and compassionate care. Radiation Oncology
Dr. Syed Rahman is the full-time
radiation oncologist at CHWC Radiation Oncology Center. Using the latest computer
technology, Dr. Rahman and his staff develop sophisticated three-dimensional
treatment plans for treating their patients. The system allows patients to receive
the maximum dose of radiation to their tumor site without compromising the normal
tissue that surrounds the tumor. |
