Pharmacy

CHWC’s Pharmacy Department is staffed by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who work directly with doctors, health professionals and patients to contribute to better overall care and the best possible health outcomes. Additionally, the CHWC pharmacy serves as a training site for pharmacy students.

Our pharmacists verify medication orders to meet our patients’ needs while evaluating their appropriateness and efficacy. They also assist practitioners in calculating the best dosages, and screen orders to prevent drug interactions and for contraindicated medications due to allergy or disease state.

Patients are asked to bring all medications in their original bottles during inpatient stays; this allows us an accurate record of our patients’ drug therapy.

While our pharmacy hours are set to best assist inpatient needs, a pharmacist is on call for emergency needs during afterhours. After hour orders are processed through the assistance of our licensed contracted pharmacy group specializing in hospital care, providing our patients with seamless 24-hour care.

The acquisition and dispensing of medications within the hospital is overseen by the CHWC Pharmacy Department. Whenever possible, we purchase commercially available medications and compound the remainder on site.

CHWC’s pharmacy is not licensed to fill retail prescriptions and therefore does not compete with area retail pharmacies. We look forward to providing each of our patients with excellent care!
